Peter Bubenzer is the Group Managing Partner of Appleby. He is also a member of the Corporate Finance and Telecommunications, Technology and Intellectual Property teams. Peter practices a full range of corporate and commercial law specialising in advising on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and securities work including private offerings of debt or equity and public offerings of debt or equity of companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, the LSE and the Bermuda Stock Exchange.
Peter has been ranked in numerous international legal publications throughout his career. Most recently he earned a Highly Recommended rating for Corporate/M&A in the PLC Which Lawyer Individual Recommendation league. Other accolades include Chambers Global and IFLR1000 for Corporate/ Commercial and Who’s Who Legal for Corporate Governance. Clients and legal practitioners interviewed by Chambers Global describe Peter as an, “Intellectual equal of anyone in the offshore world [who is] strategically minded, politically savvy and commercially sensitive”. He has been described as a lawyer who “generates calm and confidence in negotiations”, with IFLR 1000 highlighting his “prompt response, accessibility and practical and sound advice”. Most recently, Chambers Global described Peter as “commercially practical and extremely skilful”.
Peter joined the group as an Associate in the Litigation Department in October 1980 and became a Partner in December 1986. He became Head of the Corporate & Commercial Department in 1993 and became Managing Partner of the Bermuda Office and the Group in 2002.
Peter Bubenzer was educated in Bermuda and England. He studied law at Exeter University, England, graduating in 1978 with an LL.B. He joined Gray's Inn and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1979 and to the Bermuda Bar in 1980.
Peter was the Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany in Bermuda for ten years and is a fluent German speaker. He has had many articles published across a range of journals including Legal Week and Managing Partner. He is a member of the Bermuda Bar Association, the International Bar Association, an Associate Member of the American Bar Association and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
